Biography |
Brenda Mallory is primarily known as a sculpture and installation artist, mining natural materials and mimicking organic processes with her generative installations. Texture and repeated rhythmic forms, often derived from nature or forms of weaving, are central features of Mallory's abstract compositions. Her early works often draw upon the sense of loss she suffered as a person of Cherokee heritage who experienced forced integration. A longtime Portland, Oregon resident, Mallory has recently begun to garner more national attention, particularly as a recipient of a prestigious 2015 Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship and a 2016 Native Arts and Culture Foundation Fellowship. |
