Description |
Pear-shaped lamp (also known as a slipper lamp) with a high "tongue-shaped" handle. Lamp with roughly flat, pear-shaped base (with some bits of clay from other vessels fired on - ?). Sharply carinated body profile. Shoulder with high "tongue-shaped" vertical knob handle opposite the wick hole located at the narrow end. Large central fill hole encircled by a vertical ridge. A second ridge surround both the fill hole and the wick hole, creating a depressed channel that demarcates the nozzle. Channel decorated with a line and a branch pattern in low relief. Shoulder with low ridges and rows of raised dots along the sides of the handle. Low ridges also follow the perimeter of the higher ridge that encompasses both the fill and wick holes. Angled ridges along the shoulder create triangular fields filled with stylized heart-shaped ivy leaves, lines and raised dots. The entire upper surface and handle is covered in an olive-green glaze that flowed and dribbled onto most of the underside as well. |
