Description |
The piece is a little metal basin whose bottom has been cut out and replaced by a glass pane which is held in place by two strips of metal, screws, wood and finishing nails. The top of the basin--the part which is open on a functional basin--has been closed off with wood and is now the back of the piece. Inside the basin is a miniature rocking chair made of distressed wood. The rocking chair is not complete: it is seen in profile and the portion towards the back has been removed and drawn in instead. Draped or seated unconventionally in the chair (legs through the side) is a black and gray outfit (pants and a smaller shirt arranged to look like a person without head, arms or feet sticking out of the clothing). A small limb (the lower leg and foot) carved out of wood with the foot of a rocking chair attached to it has been attached to the back of the chair. The whole piece as been much distressed--made to look old by rubbing dark paint into crevices and on surfaces. |
