Description |
A Kantharos with a sessile, spreading base in several degrees with a concave inner floor, and an equal, biconical body that exterminates into a rounded, slightly tapered lip. Two protruding bands circle the cup slightly below the center of the body. Two vertical handles, rectangular in section, are attached from just below the lip to the middle of the body, just above the protruding bands, and sit on either side of the body. It is dipped in black slip and burnished, except for the three spots on the base where the potter gripped the vessel and dipped it into slip. This is a rare type of Kantharos as the handles do not extend past the lip and don’t connect from the rim to the base. |
