Description |
Oinochoe Jug with a flat, round base and globular body that sharply turns inward to a short, cylindrical neck that connects to a carinated, larger neck piece that terminates with a rounded lip. A high-swung strap, rectangular in section, is attached from the rim to the shoulder. The exterior of the vessel and inside of the mouth are covered with black slip and burnished, and there are five spots around the base where the potter gripped the vessel and dipped it into the black slip. Two thin bands of added white paint run around the shoulder, under the handle attachment. This vessel would likely have held oils or perfumes. |
